This safari combines two of the Delta’s most rewarding ecosystems — the wildlife-rich landscapes of Moremi Game Reserve and the predator-filled floodplains of the Khwai Area. Guests experience the Delta both by land and water through carefully guided game drives, night drives, mokoro excursions, and seasonal boat cruises.

The safari is designed to move at the natural rhythm of the wilderness, allowing guests to fully appreciate the constantly changing landscapes of channels, lagoons, floodplains, reed beds, and mopane woodlands.

Whether photographing lions crossing golden floodplains, listening to nocturnal sounds around the campfire, or silently gliding through the Delta channels by mokoro, every day offers a unique perspective of Botswana’s extraordinary wilderness.

What To Expect

The Delta Miracle Safari explores one of Africa’s most wildlife-rich wetland ecosystems — the Okavango Delta. This unique landscape is made up of winding channels, lagoons, floodplains, reed beds, and mopane woodland, creating diverse habitats that support extraordinary concentrations of wildlife.

The first part of the safari focuses on Moremi Game Reserve, where guests explore varied landscapes filled with predators, large herds, birdlife, and seasonal floodplains.

The safari then continues into the Khwai Area, a region famous for predator activity, close wildlife encounters, and exceptional photographic conditions. Here, guests experience the Delta through mokoro excursions, game drives that extend into night drives, and immersive wildlife encounters in one of Botswana’s most productive ecosystems.

The itinerary is designed for flexibility and exploration, ensuring every day feels different depending on wildlife movement, seasonal conditions, and the changing moods of the Delta.

Guests also have the option to continue their safari to another lodge, Kasane, Livingstone, or Victoria Falls at the conclusion of the camping safari.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival in Maun & Flight into Moremi

Upon arrival at Maun Airport, guests are welcomed before boarding a scenic charter flight directly into Moremi Game Reserve. The short flight offers breathtaking aerial views of the Okavango Delta’s intricate channels, floodplains, and islands.

After landing in the reserve, guests meet the safari vehicle and immediately begin the safari experience while driving toward camp.

This first drive introduces guests to the incredible diversity of Moremi’s landscapes and wildlife. Along the way, there are opportunities to encounter giraffes, zebras, impalas, kudu, buffalo, elephants, and numerous bird species including eagles, vultures, oxpeckers, and other Delta birdlife.

The changing terrain — from woodland to open floodplains — provides excellent opportunities for wildlife photography from the very beginning of the safari.

Arrival in camp is followed by dinner and a relaxed evening beneath the African night sky.

Days 2–4 – Exploring Moremi Game Reserve

The following days are dedicated to exploring the remarkable habitats of Moremi Game Reserve.

Each morning begins with an early wake-up call before departing on a morning game drive after breakfast. Guests travel with a hot tea stop prepared in the bush, allowing time to stretch and enjoy the atmosphere of the Delta.

Morning drives focus on tracking wildlife activity during the cooler hours of the day when predators are often most active.

Depending on sightings and movement, guests may encounter lions, leopards, African wild dogs, buffalo, zebras, wildebeest, tsessebe, giraffes, elephants, and a variety of antelope species.

After returning to camp for lunch and a midday siesta, guests prepare for the afternoon game drive. Bush showers are provided before the afternoon activity, adding to the authentic mobile safari experience.

Evenings are spent around the campfire enjoying drinks before dinner while listening to the distant sounds of Africa.

One of the highlights during the Moremi stay is the seasonal motorboat cruise, when water levels permit. The cruise allows guests to explore the intricate waterways of the Okavango Delta, offering a perspective completely different from vehicle-based safaris.

The waterways provide opportunities to photograph hippos, aquatic birds, water lilies, crocodiles, and reflections across the Delta channels.

If water levels are too low for boating activities, additional game drives are conducted to explore different habitats and increase wildlife viewing opportunities.

Moremi’s extraordinary habitat diversity ensures every drive feels different, with riparian woodland, reed beds, floodplains, permanent wetlands, and open grasslands all supporting different species and wildlife behavior.

Day 5 – Transfer from Moremi to Khwai

The safari continues northeast toward the Khwai Area after a final morning drive in Moremi.

Guests enjoy breakfast before exploring the surrounding area while camp staff pack and relocate the mobile camp.

The drive to Khwai passes through constantly changing landscapes, creating opportunities for additional wildlife sightings and photography throughout the journey.

A picnic lunch is enjoyed along the way before continuing deeper into the Khwai floodplain ecosystem.

The transfer itself becomes part of the safari experience, with wildlife often encountered between destinations.

Arrival in camp is followed by time to settle in before the next stage of the adventure begins.

Days 6–8 – Khwai Area Exploration

The Khwai Area is renowned for exceptional predator sightings, rich floodplain ecosystems, and excellent opportunities for close wildlife encounters.

Morning game drives explore the floodplains and surrounding woodland while taking advantage of Khwai’s flexibility for off-road driving where appropriate.

This allows guests to position closely and respectfully near special wildlife sightings for better viewing and photography opportunities.

Afternoon drives extend into night drives, revealing the nocturnal side of the Delta ecosystem.

Night drives create opportunities to encounter species rarely seen during daylight hours, including African civets, genets, servals, owls, nightjars, porcupines, honey badgers, and occasionally caracals.

One of the highlights of the Khwai experience is the mokoro excursion through the shallow channels of the Delta.

Traveling silently in a traditional dugout canoe allows guests to explore areas inaccessible by vehicle while experiencing the Okavango from water level.

The mokoro excursion offers excellent opportunities to observe birdlife such as African fish eagles, jacanas, cormorants, darters, geese, and storks, along with frogs, aquatic vegetation, and water lilies.

The peaceful pace of the mokoro creates a completely different connection to the Delta ecosystem.

After returning to camp for lunch and a midday rest, guests continue exploring Khwai through additional afternoon and night drives.

Final Day – Return to Maun

The safari concludes with a final short morning drive before transferring to the airstrip for the charter flight back to Maun.

Guests continuing onward to another lodge or safari destination may also fly directly from Khwai without returning to Maun.

The return flight marks the end of the Delta Miracle Photographic Safari and an unforgettable journey through Botswana’s Okavango Delta.
